My recent research interests are in the study of the structure and
dynamics of complex systems. I use my
background as theoretical physicist
and some of the methods proper to statistical physics and
non-linear dynamics to look into
biological problems, to model social
systems, and to find new solutions for
the design of technological
networks.
I am the scientific director of the
Lab for Complex Systems of Scuola
Superiore di Catania, and group leader
of the Catania ATP group, a research
unit interested in interdisciplinary
applications of theoretical physics. I am also associated with the
Human Space Lab at Politecnico di
Milano.
Here is my short BIO
and a list of
my publications. My
h-index is 32, and the
Physics Report
on complex networks I have coauthored in 2006 has about 1500 citations
(see: Top 25 hottest articles, and
Math reviews on the web ).
This is me at work, in one of
my main creative
research moments, and this is when
(and how) I try
to scare
students who want to work on
complex systems. If you are not
scared you can find a list of
inspiring papers here.
